The LME Copper contract has fallen back into the middle of the $7,850–$8,900 range and is currently trading at $8,475 while managed fund positions on the CME copper contract have flipped between short and long as copper goes through sporadic declines and rallies within the range.

Nikola Corporation (NASDAQ: NKLA) has announced a target to deliver up to 350 hydrogen-fuel cell electric trucks this year. The Phoenix, Arizona-based alternative energy carmaker is setting its ambitions on delivering more than 350 hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks to customers by the end of this quarter after cost controls.

The United States government has halted its efforts to monitor crypto mining operations due to concerns about increasing energy consumption, following a lawsuit by a sector accused of exacerbating the climate crisis by environmental organizations. A Texas federal judge has ordered a temporary injunction to stop the imposition of new regulations aimed at evaluating the energy use of cryptocurrency miners. American tech giant Apple has reportedly shelved its secret plans to develop a self-driving electric vehicle for the nascent EV industry. The company has spent the past 10 years working on the ambitious Project Titan, but multiple reports say Apple is now turning its attention to artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Apple is estimated to have spent billions of dollars and dedicated 2,000 workers to the autonomous vehicle project over the past decade. Multiple reports now say the teams working on Project Titan will be transferred to AI development divisions while some will likely be laid off. However, the number of Apple employees that will be affected by Project Titan’s closure is still unclear.

Bloomberg first reported news of the project’s cancellation on Feb. 27, 2024. The publication said chief operating officer Jeff Williams and Kevin Lynch, a vice president in the autonomous vehicle project, shared the decision. According to Bloomberg, the two officials said Project Titan would start winding down while some of the project’s staff, referred to as the Special Projects Group (SPG), would be transferred to the company’s fledgling AI segment under the helm of John Giannandrea to work on generative AI.

Hundreds of vehicle designers and hardware engineers who were on the self-driving project may also be able to apply for transfers to other Apple departments. While the tech giant declined to comment on the matter, news of the project’s closure caused Apple share prices to rise by around 1% to $182.63.

Apple’s ambitious plans to develop a self-driving car ran into multitudes of challenges from the very start. The company particularly struggled to develop the self-driving technology at the heart of autonomous vehicles despite testing its self-driving system with dozens of cars on American roads. But with development costs adding up amid falling EV prices and a cooler electric vehicle market, Apple is winding down its EV plans entirely. Similarly, major automakers such as Ford and General Motors have scaled back their electrification plans in response to lackluster demand and diminishing sales in the United States and European Union.

A new study has found that marijuana products dominant in CBD can ease anxiety more effectively in comparison to products that contain THC. THC and CBD are the two primary compounds found in marijuana. However, unlike CBD, THC induces a high when ingested.

The study was carried out by researchers at CU Boulder. It is the first randomized trial to investigate how commercially available marijuana influences symptoms of anxiety.

Currently, one in five adults in America have an anxiety disorder, which makes it a common mental health condition in the United States. The researchers’ primary objective was to better understand the short- and long-term effects of THC and CBD on anxiety symptoms. The researchers recruited 300 individuals who suffered from anxiety. More than 250 of the participants had previously tried marijuana while the rest hadn’t.

Those who had tried the drug before were required to use a product that was CBD dominant, one that was THC dominant or a product that had equal parts CBD and THC. During a four-week period, the participants were allowed to use the products as much as they desired. During this same period, the researchers tested every participant before and immediately after they had smoked marijuana.

The researchers determined that while all participants reported reductions in their anxiety, those who used the marijuana products reported a greater decrease in perceived anxiety in comparison to those who hadn’t used marijuana before.

Additionally, the participants who used the products that had more CBD recorded the biggest improvements in their anxiety symptoms. Participants in this group were also less likely to experience paranoia after using the drug in comparison to the other two groups. This is in addition to feeling less tense after they had indulged.

Associate professor L. Cinnamon Bidwell, the study’s senior author, stated that CBD was linked to anxiety and tension relief with limited harm in the short-term. She explained that CBD had more anti-inflammatory properties than THC, which could mean that CBD-heavy products could decrease anxiety by soothing inflammation in nerves and in the brain. Bidwell noted that despite these findings, more data was needed to definitively state that there were long-term beneficial effects of CBD for anxiety.

New research has found that artificial intelligence (AI) tools are producing inaccurate data on elections, including incomplete and/or harmful answers. This research comes as more individuals in America turn to chatbots such as ChatGPT-4 and Gemini for information on presidential primaries.

Despite this advancement, the new research has found that these artificial intelligence models tend to suggest polling places that don’t exist to voters and come up with incorrect responses based on old information.

For example, when prompted about voting in California, Llama 2 responded by stating that voters in this state could vote by text message. This method of voting isn’t legal in any state in the United States. Llama 2 was launched by Meta in 2023 for commercial as well as research purposes.

Additionally, none of the AI models tested during the study could give correct information on Texas’s state laws when asked about how to dress during polls.

The artificial intelligence text models in question include Gemini, Mixtral, Llama 2, ChatGPT-4, Claude and Gemini. Each failed to reveal that wearing clothes with campaign logos was prohibited at polls in this particular state.

Despite their shortcomings, some policy experts believe that artificial intelligence could improve elections by marking out anomalies in voting and powering tabulators to scan ballots faster than poll workers. This sentiment isn’t shared by all, however, because AI tools are also being used to manipulate voters.

For example, voters in New Hampshire received robocalls generated by AI a couple of days prior to the presidential primary, with a fake President Joseph Biden voice encouraging individuals not to vote in the election.

Findings from a recent poll carried out by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research show that most adults in America fear that artificial intelligence tools will increase the spread of misleading and false information during the 2024 elections. Even with solid concerns, Congress has yet to approve any laws that would regulate AI in politics.

Projects

PCH Project-Brazil

The PCH project hosts REE mineralization in both ionic clays developed from the weathering of alkaline granites and in-situ rare earth mineralization associated with the underlying granite and a carbonatite intrusion to depths greater than 100 meters. Sampling data shows enrichment in rare earth minerals to depths of between eight meters and +30 meters.

In early 2023, Appia announced a definitive agreement to acquire a 70% interest in the PCH Project, which is 17,551 hectares in size and located in the Tocantins Structural Province of the Brasília Fold Belt, Goiás State, Brazil. It is classified as an alkaline intrusive rock occurrence with the potential for highly anomalous REE and Niobium mineralization.

The region around Iporá, a city located roughly 30 km from the PCH Project, has significant mineral exploration and mining activity and well-developed infrastructure.

In July 2023, Appia commenced an aggressive auger and reverse circulation (RC) drill campaign to delineate a potential resource estimate at the PCH project. Initial results at the site revealed significant exploration potential with impressive values that often surpass known ionic clay deposits in Brazil, particularly for the highly valuable heavy rare earths Terbium and Dysprosium.

The auger holes drilled at Target 4 have exhibited a range of total REE grades, ranging from 274 ppm to 16,648 ppm (1.66%), with an average of 1,291 ppm total REE. The valuable rare earths used in magnet applications – praseodymium, neodymium, terbium and dysprosium (Pr, Nd, Tb, and Dy) plus yttrium (Y) accounted for approximately 14% of total rare earths, reaching a maximum of 28.4%. Notably, the deposit also contains anomalous values of niobium and scandium, with average values of 736 ppm for Nb and 62 ppm for scandium in a composite sample from Target 4.

Heavy rare earths (HREEs) show maximum values of 1,624 ppm and average values of 1,291 ppm, primarily as terbium and dysprosium. Light rare earths (LREEs) show maximum values of 14,024 ppm (1.54%) with an average of 1,145 ppm. Neodymium and praseodymium, the main magnetic light rare earths, show respective maximum values of 3,131 ppm (Nd) and 885 ppm (Pr) and average values of 216 ppm (Nd) and 61.7 ppm (Pr). The overall HRRE/LREE ratio has a maximum of 39.5% and an average value of 16.67%.

“Appia is thrilled with the progress made and the promising results thus far,” CEO Tom Drivas stated in a news release. “The company remains committed to advancing its exploration plans, aiming to promptly gather significant data throughout the year, and to work towards estimating a maiden mineral resource in the coming months.”

Alces Lake Project – Saskatchewan

Appia’s Alces Lake project, located in northern Saskatchewan, encompasses some of the highest-grade total and critical REEs and gallium mineralization in the world, hosted within several surface and near-surface monazite occurrences that remain open at depth and along strike.

Following the company’s acquisition of additional new mineral claims in the area in February 2023, Appia’s Alces Lake claim block now totals 38,522 contiguous hectares (95,191 acres) – 100% owned by the Company.

Appia announced the completion of a NI43-101 technical report on the property in June 2023, providing an update on exploration previously reported in March 2021.The report is available on SEDAR under the company’s profile.

Extensive diamond drilling and geophysics surveys are underway to explore a more than 25-kilometer structural corridor. In July 2023, the company issued an update on its diamond drill program having completed the first phase of drilling at the project’s Magnet Ridge Zone to further test the extent of the mineralization to the south south-east (SSE). President Stephen Burega noted the presence of “continued mineralization at significantly thicker intercepts.”

As part of its 2023 exploration program at Alces Lake, Appia plans to target priority areas that extend SSE from the Wilson, Richard, Charles, Bell, Ivan, Dylan, Dante and AMP zones through the Magnet Ridge Zone and beyond, covering an area extending approximately 20 kilometers in length and 5 to 7 km in width. Appia will also undertake reconnaissance drilling on priority regional geological and geophysical targets in the Western Anomaly area.

Other Projects

  • Appia holds a total of 75,314 hectares (186,106 acres) of land on four uranium claim blocks in the prolific Athabasca Basin (Loranger, North Wollaston, Eastside and Otherside). Exploration plans for these properties are expected to be announced once permits are in hand.
  • Appia also has a 100% interest in 12,545 hectares (31,000 acres), with rare earth element and uranium deposits over five mineralized zones, in the Elliot Lake Camp, Ontario.

A report from Mordor Intelligence forecasts the global REE market is expected to grow from 168 million tons in 2023 to 206.25 million tons by 2028, marking a CAGR of 4.19% during the forecast period. The market is gradually improving following the economic and production restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Factors driving the market’s growth include high demand from emerging economies and the dependency of environmentally friendly technologies on rare earth elements.

According to UxC, one of the nuclear industry’s leading market research and analysis companies, the uranium market is rapidly becoming production-driven, where spot and long-term prices more closely correlate to the marginal cost of uranium production.

Although global reactor requirements are projected to be flat through 2024, UxC forecasts that significant demand growth from 2025 to 2040 will necessitate new production as resources are exhausted at several uranium projects. The Albert Lake Project

The Albert Lake Project comprises 90,460 hectares of lands located in north-central Saskatchewan, with over 80,000 hectares currently unexplored. The project is host to the historic Rottenstone Mine, a high-grade, open pit nickel sulfide past producer that was active from 1965 to 1969 and yielded ~26,000 tonnes of 3.3% Ni, 1.8% Cu, and >9 g/t Pd-Pt+Au.

The geological setting of the Albert Lake Project is within the Trans Hudson Orogeny (Corridor), which is host to numerous world-class nickel mining camps including the Thompson Nickel Belt (currently operating with more than 5 billion pounds of nickel produced since 1959), Lynn Lake (past producer) and Raglan Nickel Belt (currently operating with more than 39,000 tons of nickel produced in 2020).

The project is fully permitted. Exploration plans for 2024 include drilling a high-priority target located approximately 2km south of the historic Rottenstone Mine along with drilling other high-priority targets. Additional soil geochemistry, surface geophysical programs and geological mapping and prospecting will be performed during the summer field season.

The Gochager Lake Project

The Gochager Lake Project in northern Saskatchewan, also in the prolific Trans Hudson Corridor, was recently expanded through the addition of the contiguous Watt’s Lake property and direct staking, bringing its total land area to 22,620 hectares.

The Gochager Lake property is host to a historic resource defined by drilling in 1966-1967 consisting of 4.2 M tons grading 0.29% Ni and 0.08% Cu. Recent drilling by Fathom has defined multiple very robust off-hole borehole electromagnetic (BHEM) responses in eight of nine holes drilled in 2023 and three historic drill holes probed. There is very strong evidence of multiple, high-grade nickel-copper-cobalt steeply oriented chutes within the historic Gochager Lake Deposit.

Prior to Fathom exploration in 2023 and since 1970, exploration at the property has been limited to small drill programs in 1989-1990 and 2018. Exploration plans for 2024 include expanded surface geophysical programs, drilling and continued BHEM surveys to expand tons and increase the grade of the historic Gochager Lake deposit. Summer exploration will consist of soil geochemistry, mapping, prospecting and additional surface geophysical programs focused on identifying other Gochager-like deposits within the current land package.

Market Opportunity

Nickel plays a crucial role in clean energy technologies, and that is expected to cause demand to well outstrip supply for the foreseeable future.

With an annual market value of around $35 billion, nickel demand is projected to rise due to its intensive use in lithium-ion batteries used to power EVs. Storm Copper

The high-grade Storm Copper Deposit is located 112 kilometers south of the community of Resolute Bay, Nunavut, on western Somerset Island, just south of the past-producing Polaris Pb-Zn Mine. The property comprises 173 contiguous mining claims, including the Storm Copper and Seal Zinc projects, covering an area of approximately 541,795 acres.

The property has good access to established shipping lanes, and the landscape provides favorable conditions for development of roads and a protected deep-water port. Exploration is supported through excellent infrastructure in the nearby hamlet of Resolute Bay.

Aston Bay is partnered with American West Metals (ASX: AW1) at Storm. American West is responsible for all exploration expenditures, having aggressively advanced the project toward production and earned an 80% interest. This affords excellent optionality to the company’s shareholders, as Aston Bay is free carried with no required expenditures until the completion of a bankable feasibility study.

American West recently completed an Australian JORC-compliant Maiden Resource Estimate for Storm; the North American 43-101 compliant resource estimate is expected in Q1 2024. American West is cashed up and plans a multimillion-dollar resource expansion and new discovery drilling program for the summer of 2024.

The Buckingham County Gold Project

The gold-bearing system at the Buckingham County Gold Project in Virginia lies within a belt hosting past producing mines, current gold mines and advanced gold explorations, stretching through Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Buckingham hosts a “Kirkland Lake-style” high grade gold vein returning values consistently over one ounce gold per ton and is underexplored both at depth and along almost one mile of strike length.   • To allow for broad deployment, Sigyn Therapy™ is designed for use on the established infrastructure of dialysis and continuous renal replacement machines already located in hospitals and clinics around the world.

First-in-human studies of Sigyn Therapy™ plan to enroll dialysis dependent end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients with endotoxemia and concurrent inflammation, which are highly prevalent and associated with increased mortality in the ESRD population. There are more than 550,000 individuals with ESRD in the United States, which result in approximately 85 million dialysis treatments being administered each year.

The ImmunePrep™ Platform

Immunotherapeutic antibodies to treat cancer are among the most valued assets in global medicine. However, these drugs suffer from a severe limitation: they are poorly delivered to cancer cell targets, and, as a result, a majority of patients do not respond to therapy.

The Sigyn team recognized that just a small fraction of an antibody dose reaches its cancer cell target, yet a significant portion of the same dose can be sequestered by circulating decoys that display the target (antigen) binding site of the antibody. In response, Sigyn designed the ImmunePrep™ platform to leverage the use of therapeutic antibodies to create extracorporeal blood purification devices that sweep antibody decoys from the bloodstream prior to the subsequent infusion (normal delivery) of the same therapeutic antibody.

The company believes its reverse decoy mechanism will increase the availability of antibodies to interact with their intended disease targets, and, simultaneously, the devices will also extract disease targets from the bloodstream to further improve patient benefit.

The opportunity to enhance the performance of therapeutic antibodies is significant. Consider that Pfizer’s $43 billion acquisition of Seagen Inc. and Amgen’s $27.8 billion acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics were the highest valued M&A deals of 2023. In both cases, transaction values were driven by market-cleared antibody assets.

In the backdrop of these M&A transactions, the immune checkpoint antibody Keytruda (Merck) became the world’s best-selling (non-vaccine) drug in 2023, with anticipated revenues of ~$24 billion.

ChemoPrep™ and ChemoPure™

Recent scientific publications have reported that only 1% of chemotherapy is delivered to the tumor cell targets of cancer patients. In response, the Sigyn team designed ChemoPrep™ to overcome a delivery limitation of the most commonly administered drug to treat cancer.

The company is developing ChemoPrep™ to reduce the circulating presence of tumor-derived exosomes (tumor exosomes), which interfere with chemotherapy delivery. High concentrations of tumor exosomes in the bloodstream correspond with poor treatment outcomes, whereas low concentrations of tumor exosomes correspond with more favorable outcomes. As compared to non-cancer subjects, exosome populations are reported to be 10x to 500x higher in the bloodstream of cancer patients. Based on these factors, the company believes there is a compelling scientific rationale to reduce the circulating presence of tumor exosomes prior to chemotherapy administration.

Inversely, the Sigyn team recognized that if 99% of chemotherapy was missing its target, then there was a need to eliminate off-target chemotherapy from the bloodstream to reduce toxicity and limit organ damage. This factor led to the design of ChemoPure™ to reduce treatment toxicity by reducing the presence of off-target chemotherapy from the bloodstream. The company believes that a reduction in chemotoxicity may also alleviate treatment-related fatigue and potentially temper the long-term health consequences associated with chemotherapy administration.
