There is a strict deadline for license issuance, and the state is trying to issue the licenses as soon as feasible. With the lottery scheduled for next month and January fast approaching, there is growing concern about whether there will be enough medical cannabis available by the program’s start date.

Beshear acknowledged this concern and assured that a contingency plan is underway. He stated that an executive order would be put in place if the state foresees any issues with product availability. This would allow patients to obtain medical cannabis from other states, such as Ohio, under certain specific conditions.

The state’s medical cannabis program will be relatively small in scale, with only patients with specific qualifying medical conditions eligible to purchase medical cannabis. This means the demand for the product will be lower compared to states that have fully legalized marijuana for both medical and recreational use.

Medical cannabis in Kentucky was passed through Senate Bill 47, which Beshear signed into law in 2023.The law permits patients with qualifying conditions to use medical marijuana; however, smoking marijuana will remain prohibited. Instead, patients will have the option to vape dried flower, similar to Ohio’s medical cannabis program.

The law also sets limits on THC content. Cannabis flower will have a cap of 35% THC, while tinctures, edibles and oils will be limited to 10 milligrams per serving. Concentrates will be limited to 70% THC. Home growing of cannabis is prohibited.

The research was conducted by a global team of investigators, including at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Cornell University. The researchers’ focus was on determining what types of cells and areas in the brain were involved when anxiety was suppressed using psychedelics. Associate professor Alex Kwan, the study’s senior author, explained that knowing the neurobiology involved would assist in the development of better medications.

For their research, the investigators used DOI (2,5-dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine), a psychedelic that’s similar to psilocybin and LSD. They used rats and mice for their experiments, which began by placing the rodents in a maze that had two sides: an exposed section above the ground and an enclosed area with walls.

The maze was designed to determine how anxious the rodents would be and how much they would explore. Investigators evaluated levels of anxiety based on time the animals spent in each area, observing that the animals spent most of their time in the closed wing. The scientists then administered the psychedelic into the bloodstream of the rodents and ran them through the maze. Once this was done, they infused the psychedelic into different regions in the brains of these rodents, and then observed any changes in their levels of anxiety.

The investigators found that the ventral hippocampus was the only region that could hold on to the psychedelic’s effect of decreasing anxiety. This research is based on prior studies that observed abnormal hyperactivity in the ventral hippocampus when animals are anxious.

Study’s coauthor assistant professor Antonio Fernandez-Ruiz also measured the electrical recordings of the brain. This helped identify interneurons that demonstrated increased firing following the psychedelic’s introduction. The study’s corresponding author, professor Vidita Vaidya, explained that the research offered a better understanding of cellular triggers for anxiety relief induced by psychedelics.

The investigators are now studying if the amygdala plays a role in this.

The research was supported by India’s Department of Atomic Energy, a Whitehall Research Grant, the Sree Padmavathi Venkateswara Foundation, the National Science Foundation, a Sackler Institute Award, a Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship, a Sloan Fellowship and the National Institutes of Health.

Other coauthors included scientists from the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University and Yale University. The research’s findings were reported in the “Neuron” journal.

The Thundercloud Property

The Thundercloud property is situated in the prolific Archean Manitou-Stormy Lakes greenstone belt in Western Ontario, which has a geological setting similar to the Abitibi belt but is much less thoroughly explored. The region contains numerous gold showings, along with several deposits and historic producers. Initial results suggest excellent potential for bulk-tonnage orogenic gold mineralization, with the possibility of high-grade mineralization. In recent years, nearly 30 million ounces of gold have been discovered in the area.

Dynasty Gold’s Thundercloud project is strategically located within one of Canada’s most prodigious gold-producing regions. Ontario is renowned for its rich mineral deposits and supportive mining infrastructure, providing a favorable environment for exploration and development. The Thundercloud property covers approximately 5,560 acres and is located 47 kilometers southeast of Dryden, Ontario. It is accessible via the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 17). Dryden, a resource-based town, offers essential infrastructure for mining operations.

Dynasty recently completed Phase 1 of its 2024 Drill Program at its Thundercloud property, announcing results in an August press release.

Ivy Chong, President and CEO, commented, “Dynasty completed Phase 1 of the 4,000 meters planned drilling, consisting of 11 holes for a total of 2,198 meters. The eight holes within the Pelham Zone all intersected intervals from 10+ to 70 meters of strong pyrite veinlets and disseminations similar to that associated with high-grade mineralization in the previous two years of grades up to 8.4 g/t gold over 73.5m including 151.7 g/t gold over 3.0m. The recent drilling results at Thundercloud have substantial implications for the project’s future. High-grade gold intercepts are indicative of a robust mineralized system, which could lead to a significant increase in the project’s resource estimate. Despite this high-grade, the company’s drill holes are comparatively shallow (less than 250 meters in length). Many similar projects are required to drill as deep as 700+ meters to obtain grades similar to Dynasty’s recent results. This, in turn, enhances the project’s attractiveness to major mining companies and institutional investors.

The impressive drilling results from Dynasty’s Canadian project will be followed by more drilling with more news expected in the next few weeks. Roughly 90% of the project has thus far seen limited drilling and therefore represents untested potential. Positive assay results often generate increased interest and confidence as the market reacts to the potential for significant resource discoveries.

The Golden Repeat Property

Located on the north slope of the Midas Trough, along the Carlin Trend within the Northern Nevada Rift, the Golden Repeat gold property comprises 49 contiguous mining claims totaling approximately 968 acres. These claims share geological similarities with gold properties in the well-known Midas Gold Camp.

Hecla Mining Company’s Midas Mine is located 18 kilometers east of the property, with other major Carlin-style gold mines, including Nevada Gold Ventures LLC’s Getchell-Twin Creeks-Turquoise Ridge mines (15 kilometers southwest) and its Goldstrike Mine complex (50 kilometers southeast) nearby.

The property is easily accessible from Interstate 80, with excellent local mining infrastructure. Gold Fields and Romarco Minerals briefly drilled the property in the 1990s, but a large portion remains unexplored.

Renforth Resources Inc. Parbec Gold Deposit

Renforth’s 100% owned Parbec Gold Deposit contains a gold resource designed with an open pit to capitalize on Parbec’s surface mineralization. An MRE on the project, effective December 2019 and now considered by Renforth to be obsolete, is based upon approximately 28,000 meters of drilling which occurred between 2007 and 2019.

Renforth drilled 15,000 meters of new holes in 2020 and 2021 which were not included in the MRE, but which did extend the mineralization deeper within the MRE. The 2020-21 drilling is considered to have validated an additional 13,000 meters of historic drilling from 1986-93.

The validation occurs as 10% of the historic holes were redrilled, with results comparable to the historic results in terms of geology and gold values. Any future MRE calculated at Parbec will benefit from the inclusion of the new and historic drilling.

In addition to this, Renforth’s current structural interpretation on the location of, and controls on, the gold mineralization at Parbec is materially different than the geological model for the outdated MRE. For the first time, Renforth has mapped the Pontiac contact and interpreted a hinge fold interacting with the Cadillac Break and allowing the movement of gold enriched fluids, with mineralization plunging to the south, into the Pontiac.

It is worth noting that a structural control on the adjacent, and much larger, Canadian Malartic Mine is the Sladen Fault transiting into the Pontiac. Currently, Renforth is testing this interpretation with a soil survey designed to outline an area for stripping and bulk sampling within the Pontiac south of the Cadillac Break.

Malartic Metals Package

Renforth’s wholly owned approximately 300-square-kilometer Malartic Metals Package in Quebec’s mining heartland includes surface mineralization of battery metals nickel, cobalt, copper, zinc and silver in separate structures, as well as a copper/silver discovery and gold mineralization. Lithium is also present in anomalous amounts in the sediments, though the source has not yet been located.

The property was assembled commencing in 2020 by adding claims to Renforth’s existing Malartic West property by map staking. The goal was to acquire historic gold and base metal showings, as well as pronounced magnetic anomalies, joining several of the areas of discrete historic exploration into a district scale property with several areas of interest for battery metals and a greenfield copper/silver discovery. The property benefits from its location in an established mining community, roads on the property, rail just off the property and hydroelectric power lines crossing the property, making logistics simple and the cost to operate quite low.

This is the first time this property has been assembled as it is today and actively explored. A significant portion of the property has never been explored.

Market Overview

The World Gold Council, the industry association for the world’s gold producers, estimated in 2023 the physical financial gold market, which is made up of bars, coins, gold ETFs and central bank reserves, is worth nearly $5 trillion. The council reports that gold mine production adds approximately 3,500 tons of the precious metal to the world’s supply annually, equivalent to about 2% growth.

This historical scarcity and relatively slow production of new supply, as compared to other commodities, is a primary reason gold has retained its value for millennia, according to the council. In August 2024, the market price of gold was approximately $2,435 per ounce.
