U.S. banking regulators have taken a major step toward bringing digital asset companies into the mainstream financial system, approving several crypto firms to establish federally chartered trust banks. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said Friday that five companies received conditional approval to move forward.
The move is among the clearest indications yet that federal regulators are willing to integrate parts of the crypto industry into traditional banking oversight.
Ripple and Circle were granted permission to begin setting up national trust banks, a type of charter that permits firms to safeguard assets and provide limited banking functions. The institutions are, however, not allowed to accept deposits from the public or make loans, keeping their scope narrower than that of full-service banks.
The companies now have up to 18 months to raise sufficient capital, hire qualified staff, and put regulatory controls in place before the OCC conducts a final review.
Historically, national trust charters have been used by asset management firms and insurance companies. In recent years, however, crypto firms have increasingly viewed them as a way to gain regulatory clarity and reduce reliance on third-party banks and custodians. Operating under a single federal framework can also eliminate the need to comply with dozens of separate state-level rules.
In addition to Ripple and Circle, the OCC approved Paxos, BitGo, and Fidelity Digital Assets to convert existing state-chartered trust companies into national ones. For these firms, federal status offers consistency and could simplify operations across state lines.
The approval for Paxos specifically allows the company to issue stablecoins under federal supervision. Ripple’s charter application, on the other hand, makes clear that its USD-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, will not be issued through the newly proposed bank.
Industry executives argue that federal oversight enhances credibility, particularly for institutional clients that want stronger assurances around asset safety and compliance. Stablecoin issuers say national supervision helps distinguish them from rivals operating in less regulated environments and reassures corporate partners that their products meet high standards.
The move comes as crypto companies seek broader acceptance in Washington and on Wall Street. The sector has seen a wave of high-profile public market activity this year. Circle went public in June, with shares climbing sharply since its debut. Trading firm eToro listed in May, while blockchain infrastructure firm tZero Group has said it is preparing for an initial public offering in 2026.
Ripple, however, has said it does not intend to go public, focusing instead on expanding its regulated presence within the financial system.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine stated that he plans to sign legislation that would prohibit the sale of intoxicating hemp products and revise parts of the state’s recreational cannabis law that voters approved in 2023. The measure also introduces new criminal provisions related to cannabis possession and sales.
Speaking with reporters during a morning appearance, DeWine said the bill would bring much-needed oversight to a market he believes has operated with little control.
The bill, Senate Bill 56, passed the state Senate earlier last week and now awaits the governor’s signature. If signed before the end of the year, the law could begin taking effect as early as March.
DeWine has been pressing lawmakers to address the issue since early 2024, repeatedly calling attention to delta-8 THC products. The products, often sold outside licensed cannabis dispensaries, are commonly found at CBD stores, smoke shops, and gas stations. While derived from hemp, many of the products contain psychoactive levels of THC.
The governor has repeatedly pointed to concerns about children accessing the products. He said the bill would prevent minors from purchasing potent hemp edibles and other THC-infused products at convenience stores. Data from the Ohio Poison Control Center has added urgency to the debate. In January 2024, the agency reported at least 257 cases of delta-8 exposure in recent years. More than 100 incidents occurred in 2023 alone, and 40 involved children younger than six.
Earlier this fall, DeWine attempted to curb sales by issuing a 90-day executive order halting the sale of intoxicating hemp products. The order took effect in mid-October but was quickly challenged in court. A Franklin County judge issued a temporary restraining order that paused enforcement until January. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for January 29.
SB 56 aligns Ohio law with recent federal action that restricts hemp products containing more than 0.4 mg of total THC per package from being sold outside licensed dispensaries. This represents a shift from the Farm Bill 2018, which allowed hemp cultivation if THC levels stayed below 0.3% by weight. Although the federal rule includes a one-year delay, states are permitted to act sooner.
SB 56 also permits beverages containing up to 5mg of THC to remain on the market through the end of 2026.
Beyond hemp regulation, the bill revises the state’s recreational cannabis framework. It lowers allowable THC concentrations in extracts and flower, limits smoking in public areas, and adds restrictions on packaging and transport. Bringing legally purchased cannabis from another state into Ohio would become a criminal offense.
The legislation also reallocates tax revenue, directing 36% of the revenue from recreational cannabis sales to local governments that host dispensaries.
These developments in Ohio are likely to be watched by multistate operators like Curaleaf Holdings Inc. This study provides proof of concept that a paradigm shift in the way cancer treatment is approached is warranted. Located along the White Otter–Dashwa corridor, the project hosts REE-enriched granitic and pegmatitic systems supported by strong radiometric and geochemical signatures.
In 2025, Powermax completed airborne magnetic and gamma-ray spectrometric surveys, geological mapping, and geochemical sampling. An integrated interpretation released in November 2025 outlined a structural–geochemical corridor of REE enrichment, with Total Rare Earth Element (TREE) values from 254 ppm to 1,947 ppm across Blocks B and C. The company is currently advancing surface validation and target ranking for follow-up work.
Cameron REE Project – British Columbia
The Cameron Project, which the company holds an option to acquire, is located about 30 kilometers south of Revelstoke in the Kamloops Mining Division and comprises three contiguous mineral claims totaling 2,984 hectares.
Hosted within the Monashee Group, the property contains NYF-type granitic pegmatites and gneissic units known to carry both light and heavy REEs. Phase 1 exploration, completed under NI 43-101 recommendations, produced TREE values ranging from 17 ppm to 1,943 ppm, with heavy mineral concentrate samples up to 7,561 ppm. These findings confirmed consistent REE enrichment and led to the launch of Phase 2 exploration in October 2025 to expand mapping and refine drill targets.

Powermax owns a 100% interest in the Ogden Bear Lodge Project, covering 22 lode claims (184 hectares) in Crook County, Wyoming. A 2024 NI 43-101 resource estimate outlines 1.54 million ounces of gold equivalent (AuEq) in the Indicated category and 0.41 million ounces Inferred, all pit-constrained. Oxide resources average among the highest grades in the state and are distributed across five known deposits. A 2025 Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) projects strong economic returns, including an after-tax NPV5% of $200 million, a 34.2% internal rate of return (IRR), and average annual production of approximately 50,000 ounces AuEq over an eight-year mine life.
Permitting is well underway for both the Exploration and Mine Plans of Operation, covering over 12 km² and more than 700 drill holes. The company is targeting construction permits in late 2026 and continues to pursue oxide resource expansion and metallurgical optimization, particularly within the Slab-Calvada corridor.
West Santa Fe
West Santa Fe lies just 13 kilometers from the flagship and is being explored as a potential satellite operation. A 2019 core drill program confirmed the presence of high-grade mineralization at depth. Redlich, located along trend from the historic Candelaria silver mine, hosts disseminated Ag mineralization in epithermal veins and hydrothermal breccias but remains untested by drilling. While no near-term programs are currently disclosed, both assets represent future exploration optionality.
