Intel, AMD and Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) all recently and independently rolled out their next-gen AI chips in Taiwan. Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang stated while addressing the audience at Taipei’s National Taiwan University that the company would launch its most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chip platform, dubbed Rubin ,in 2026.

This platform follows the Blackwell platform, which was launched in March and supplies chips to data centers. At the time of its launch, Nvidia christened Blackwell the most powerful chip in the world. The platform’s architecture features transformative technologies for accelerated computing.

The Rubin will comprise of advanced networking chips, a new central processing unit known as Vera and new graphics processing units. Huang explained that the intersection of accelerated computing and artificial intelligence would redefine the future, noting that the industry is at the brink of a major shift in computing.

The competition to develop generative applications based on artificial intelligence has led to increasing global demand for chips used in data centers. Investors have also increased their demand for shares in chip companies over the last few years. In the last 12 months, Nvidia’s share prices more than doubled.

Currently, the company makes up about 70% of sales of AI semiconductors. Competition from major competitors such as Intel and AMD is growing, however, with new products being introduced to decrease Nvidia’s dominance in the market.

AMD CEO Lisa Su rolled out the company’s  latest artificial intelligence processors in Taipei, adding that AMD planned to develop new products over the next two years. Su revealed that artificial intelligence was the company’s current priority.

AMD plans to roll out its next-gen MI325X accelerator in the fourth quarter of this year. Its new chip will feature faster memory bandwidth, more memory and better computer performance. Its M1350 accelerator is set for launch in 2025 while M1400 shall be launched in 2026.

Soon after AMD’s announcement, Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger announced the sixth generation of Intel’s Xeon chips for data centers. He also spoke of the company’s Gaudi 3 AI accelerator chips, noting that the chips were one-third cheaper than the H100 chip produced by Nvidia.

Both AMD and Nvidia have been known for developing graphic processing units for video games. These units were primarily designed to deliver rich, real-time graphics. While both companies are still involved in this space, their graphic processing units are now being used to power generative artificial intelligence, which supports chatbots such as ChatGPT.

Last week, Japan launched the public-comment period for its marijuana reform measure, providing new details on how its budding marijuana industry would look over the next few months. This comes after the country’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare published a document suggesting changes to allowable THC amounts in some products in February.

Preliminary proposals suggest that Japan may become the first country to approve CBD in food.

Astrasana Holding AG managing director, Yves Antoniazzi, revealed that the company has been waiting a long time for this, noting that it was a big milestone for the global marijuana industry. He noted that Japan becoming the first country to approve CBD in food would make it easy for corporate companies to list CBD products in retail chains. Astrasana currently has a foothold in Japan’s CBD market.

This latest move by the country comes after it made a major step toward marijuana reform after approving a resolution to amend its decade-old Cannabis Control Act in October 2023. The amendment, which was approved by the House of Councillors in November last year, lifted a ban on marijuana-based pharmaceutical products and moved marijuana to a different class under its Narcotics Control Law.

After approving the amendment, authorities in the country began straightening out the details of these reforms. Since then, the marijuana industry has been waiting for an announcement from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare outlining the new framework.

The recently launched comment period shall run through mid-to-late June. It affords CBD businesses and medical professionals an opportunity to assess the draft measure and raise any concerns they may have before a final decision is made and the amendments enacted. The comments shall focus on different measures of the new legislation, including methods to analyze THC, law enforcement, first- and second-class reviews on cultivation licenses, and the development of related regulations and laws.

The amendment of these areas may allow Japan’s medical marijuana and CBD industries to flourish.

Currently, the country allows the sale of products with CBD but prohibits the sale of products with THC. Reports suggest that this may change, moving THC limits from 0 to 0.3%.

It is important to note that any individual found illegally using marijuana under the revised law could face up to seven years in prison. Prior to the 2023 amendment, only violations for export, import, possession and cultivation were punishable by law.

Regarding hemp, Japan allows the growing of commercial hemp under a strictly regulated licensing system.

While the proposed reforms may not be as extensive as advocates would have preferred, they nonetheless send positive signals to the wider marijuana industry, such as Cronos Group Inc. (NASDAQ: CRON) (TSX: CRON), and its actors regarding the possibility of ending prohibition around the world in the years to come.

Cronos Group Inc. (CRON), closed Friday's trading session at $2.43, off by 2.8%, on 1,051,124 volume. The average volume for the last 3 months is 5.8M and the stock's 52-week low/high is $1.64/$3.14.

A report by Auto Trader has found that the used-vehicle market in the United Kingdom has a shortage of affordable electric cars. According to Auto Trader, just 10,000 of the second-hand EVs on its online marketplace are currently trading at under £15,000 ($19,000), compared to a whopping 350,000 used fossil-fuel cars within the same price range.

For the average consumer, the lack of affordable used electric vehicles is a nigh-immovable roadblock to EV ownership. New electric-vehicle prices are still too high for regular drivers and high interest rates coupled with rising living costs have made it even more costly to buy a battery electric car. The second-hand market is the only way a majority of consumers can afford to buy an EV without bankrupting themselves.

Unfortunately, rising prices in the used electric-vehicle market are steadily limiting EV ownership to top earners. According to Auto Trader commercial director Ian Plummer, automakers will have to produce electric cars in a “variety of budgets” to ensure the transition to electric cars is fair and equitable. Furthermore, Plummer noted that retail demand growth would be contingent on continued efforts to make electric cars more affordable.

With the UK general election drawing nearer, Plummer said that the secondhand EV market would need financial aid from the government to support an equitable and fair transition to electric cars, likely in the form of subsidies, tax and vehicle excise-duty exemptions. Encouraging electric vehicle demand among private drivers will be especially critical to replacing the gas and diesel-powered vehicles on the UK’s roads with zero-emissions electric cars.

Businesses and fleets are largely responsible for the 10.6% increase in new EV imports seen in Q1 2024 compared to Q1 2023, but the market share of electric vehicles has dropped to 15.4% from 15.7%, largely due to declining EV purchases among private drivers. As EV purchase costs have increased amid a rise in living costs and benchmark interest rates, a growing number of consumers are avoiding electric cars for cheaper alternatives.

Government subsidies and exemptions will be key to making electric vehicles more affordable in the short- and near-term. EVs are much more expensive compared to internal combustion engine cars (ICE) because their raw materials are rare and costly, forcing automakers to pass the high production costs to their customers. Subsidies could encourage EV adoption by helping automakers lower their production costs and allowing them to price their EVs at lower price points and provide buyers with discounts at the point of purchase.

The efforts by companies such as QuantumScape Corp. (NYSE: QS) to develop superior battery chemistries that are also more affordable could further drive EV prices downwards.

QuantumScape Corp. (QS), closed Friday's trading session at $5.5, off by 3.3392%, on 3,802,424 volume. The average volume for the last 3 months is 1.448M and the stock's 52-week low/high is $4.92/$13.86.

After many attempts to acquire Anglo American by BHP, the deal seems to have been unsuccessful. During a six-week negotiation period, offer prices were increased twice with BHP urging Anglo-American’s shareholders and executives to sell its copper resources.

Despite this, the deal still fell through. Sources posit that this was primarily because BHP mainly wanted Anglo-American’s copper operations. This deal highlights the current scarcity of the red metal. Just last week, the price of copper hit a new high, going for more than $11,000 a ton.

It is expected that sooner or later, the red metal’s market will go into a deficit. Copper’s demand is set to surpass supply as the transition to clean-energy use gains traction in North America and Europe. A prediction from Goldman Sachs also suggests that copper demand will take off due to defense spending and artificial intelligence (AI) development. The bank forecasts that the metal’s prices could reach $12,000 a ton.

New supply isn’t available, however, as demonstrated by BHP’s attempts to secure copper assets via the recently failed acquisition. Clareo’s chairman, Peter Bryant, stated that the deal demonstrated that the only way miners could increase their revenues with copper was via acquisition, since there were no new copper assets available.

Bryant added that even if they existed, miners would need close to two decades to acquire permits and build. He noted that even brownfield expansion wouldn’t help obtain new and adequate copper supply due to increasing depths of available resources, declining grades, and growing distances from processing facilities, among other factors.

It doesn’t help that investments in new copper production have been low for about 10 years now. This is primarily a result of poor returns on investments in the previous decade.

BHP’s chief executive, Mike Henry, estimates that about $250 billion in investments is needed to increase the supply of copper to a degree that would allow it to meet demand by 2030. In addition, data from the International Copper Study Group suggests that the copper market is in a surplus. According to the organization, the worldwide copper market was balanced last year, with roughly 26 million refined copper tons.

However, the data also projects that in 2024, the market will have a surplus of more than 160,000 tons. This figure is then expected to drop to less than 100,000 tons in 2025. This environment, the organization notes, isn’t conducive for investment in copper supply. Reducing ore grades and mine closures are also impeding supply growth.

As the predicted market squeeze materializes, copper producers such as Southern Copper Corporation (NYSE: SCCO) could see interest in their shares reaching feverish levels.

Southern Copper Corporation (SCCO), closed Friday's trading session at $108.9, off by 4.3562%, on 1,514,621 volume. The average volume for the last 3 months is 48.917M and the stock's 52-week low/high is $67.64/$129.79.

Ether worth more than $3 billion has been drawn from cryptocurrency exchanges following the U.S. Security Exchange Commission’s approval of Ether spot ETFs last month, signaling an impending supply shortfall. Just prior to the announcement, the regulator initiated talks with possible issuers and later granted approval for multiple 19b-4 forms to list the ETFs.

The ETFs weren’t immediately ready for trading, as issuers are required to file their S-1 registration statements weeks before the ETFs can be launched. Analysts predict that the first batch of these ETFs could debut in late June.

CryptoQuant data indicates that Ether holdings on exchanges decreased by around 797,000 since the ETFs approval, amounting to $3 billion. A reduction in exchange reserves suggests that fewer coins may be available for purchase as investors transfer their holdings to self-custody for uses other than immediate sale. Additional data by BTC-ECHO researcher Leon Waidmann from Glassnode reveals that the proportion of Ether circulating on exchanges has dropped to 10.6%, the lowest point in recent years.

According to some analysts, the launch of Ether spot ETFs would cause Ether to rise above its record high of $4,870 in 2021 because of higher demand, which would have a similar effect as when Bitcoin spot ETFs started trading in January. In fact, Ethereum might experience greater demand pressure compared to Bitcoin, as noted by DeFi cryptocurrency analyst Michael Nadeau in his May 28 analysis. Unlike BTC miners, who must occasionally sell Bitcoin to cover operating costs, Ethereum validators don’t face the same operational expenses.

Concerns exist over how Grayscale’s Ether Trust, which oversees $11 billion in assets, could affect the price of Ether as well. This stems from the performance of its BTC trust — GBTC — which experienced $6.5 billion in withdrawals within the first month following approval.

Most recently, Ether is trading at $3,781, reflecting a 0.82% decrease and a decline of around 23% from its record, as reported by CoinMarketCap.

Analysts and investors will be closely watching how the launch of Ether ETFs affects Ethereum’s future and the larger crypto market as the market adapts to these changes. This period of transition will be crucial in shaping the future trajectory of Ethereum and its role within the evolving financial ecosystem. A supply squeeze brought on by the decrease in available supply could raise prices as demand rises.

Entities such as Marathon Digital Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: MARA) and other crypto industry actors are likely to watch how markets respond to the Ethereum ETFs once those entities start trading on the open market.

The QualityStocks Company Corner

First Tellurium Corp. (CSE: FTEL) (OTCQB: FSTTF)

The QualityStocks Daily Newsletter would like to spotlight First Tellurium Corp. (CSE: FTEL) (OTCQB: FSTTF) .

Recent data has revealed that solar and wind energy growth in the European Union has begun undercutting fossil fuels. A report by think tank Ember found that energy generation from the two renewables has surged by 46% from 2019 to 2023 and eaten into one-fifth of the fossil fuels' energy market, taking the EU a step closer to achieving its carbon-neutrality goals. Aside from the plan to achieve net neutrality by 2050, the current European Commission also proposed generating 45% of the regional bloc's energy from renewables by the end of the decade. Most climate experts agree that transitioning from fossil fuels to renewables is key to cutting greenhouse-gas emissions and arresting runaway climate change. Consequently, the European Union has taken several steps to encourage the development and deployment of renewables. Thanks to the gains that wind and solar capacity have made in recent years, the total share of renewables in the European Union's energy mix increased by 34% from 2019 to 2023 while the share of natural gas and fossil fuel in fossil fuel-fired energy fell from 39% to 32.5%. Companies such as First Tellurium Corp. (CSE: FTEL) (OTCQB: FSTTF) are also working to ensure an abundant supply of the critical minerals, which are required by the green-energy industry so that manufacturers can produce the supplies and equipment to generate and distribute renewable energy.

First Tellurium Corp. (CSE: FTEL) (OTCQB: FSTTF) is committed to exploring for and providing essential and critical metals, including tellurium, gold, silver, copper and tungsten, for North American markets. This objective is anchored by the company’s Deer Horn tellurium-gold-silver-copper project in British Columbia, Canada, and further enhanced by its property option on the Klondike tellurium-gold prospect located in Colorado, USA.

First Tellurium’s unique business model is to generate revenue and value through mineral discovery, project development, project generation and cooperative access to untapped mineral regions in indigenous territory with sustainable exploration potential.

The company is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Tellurium and the Green Energy Revolution

Tellurium has a key role to play in the ongoing green energy revolution. It is widely used in the manufacturing of photovoltaic cells for solar panels.

Despite this utility, ongoing trade tensions between China and the U.S. create implications for both tellurium and the production of cadmium-tellurium solar cells. Earlier this year, China announced plans to restrict exports of critical metals gallium and germanium, both essential for the production of semiconductors. For reference, China produces around 80% of the world’s gallium and approximately 60% of the world’s germanium.

China’s recent trade restrictions amplify the fragility of the North American tellurium supply, as the Asian nation currently produces about 60% of the world’s tellurium. This sustained supply vulnerability is why First Solar, the United States’ largest solar panel producer, set up a worldwide search for tellurium deposits in the mid-2000s.

“In North America alone, our understanding is that First Solar looked at over a hundred tellurium properties,” First Tellurium CEO Tyrone Docherty stated in a news release. “Their number one property by far, which they acquired, was the Colorado Klondike which we now control.”

The U.S. is now looking to secure safe, domestic sources of tellurium and many other critical metals to pre-empt potential shortages. The Biden administration has instituted a stream of policies, particularly the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, to source solar components from North America and other “friendly” jurisdictions.

As the only junior mining company in the world focused on tellurium exploration, First Tellurium is ahead of the curve in capitalizing on these initiatives to establish strategic, domestic supplies of key resources for solar panel manufacturers.

First Tellurium’s ESG Initiatives

Through its exploration and partnerships with Fenix Advanced Materials, Cheona Metals and IRMA, First Tellurium strives to generate a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return. The company conducts a diversified search for metals, working in alliance with indigenous peoples, NGOs, governments and leading metals buyers. First Tellurium believes this is the future of mineral exploration — generating revenue by exploring responsibly and leveraging diverse partnerships.

First Tellurium proudly adheres to, and supports, the principles and rights set out in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and, in particular, the fundamental proposition of free, prior and informed consent.

Projects

Deer Horn Tellurium-Gold-Silver-Copper Project

Deer Horn is located on 51.33 square kilometers (km) in west-central British Columbia, 36 km south of the prolific Huckleberry copper-molybdenum mine and 135 km southwest of the community of Burns Lake. It is one of few significant tellurium discoveries outside Asia and includes a 2.4 km-long vein system of high-grade gold, silver and tellurium, as well as broader zones of bulk-tonnage gold, silver and tellurium mineralization. The company completed a positive Preliminary Economic Estimate and has begun permitting for a 10,000-tonne bulk sample program to advance the project toward mine feasibility. It is North America’s only silver-gold-tellurium property with an NI 43-101 compliant tellurium resource, and it hosts a number of other mineralized targets and zone containing critical metals such as copper, tungsten and zinc.

First Tellurium owns 50% of the property, with an option to acquire up to a 75% interest. The company has engaged Dias Geophysical of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to conduct induced polarization (IP) geophysics on the Deer Horn Project in summer 2023. The program is designed to help develop drill targets for a subsequent drilling program.

Klondike Gold-Tellurium Project

The Klondike property is located in Saguache County, Colorado, southwest of Buena Vista in the state’s historical mining district. The company reports it has engaged Burgex Mining Consultants of Sandy, Utah, to stake additional claims around the Klondike property. The claims have been filed with the Bureau of Land Management.

Klondike demonstrates exceptional tellurium grades. Tellurium, used in high-efficiency cadmium telluride (Cd-Te) solar panels, next-generation lithium-ion batteries and thermoelectric devices to change heat into energy, is an essential element for the world’s transition to green energy.

The Klondike property was a top tellurium prospect owned previously by First Solar Inc., one of the world’s largest solar panel producers. First Solar terminated its worldwide raw materials exploration program in 2012 and sold the property to Colorado Klondike LLC, which optioned the project to First Tellurium. Colorado Klondike, led by First Solar’s former Exploration Manager in North America, is managing the upcoming exploration program.

The Colorado Geological Survey (CGS), in partnership with the Colorado School of Mines, reported on First Solar’s exploration at Klondike in 2015, noting: “Surface sampling by First Solar, Inc. in 2006 found very high tellurium grades of up to 3.3% (33,000 ppm), along with locally high gold grades. Tellurium grades at Klondike were the highest encountered in the company’s nationwide exploration program.”

Market Outlook

First Tellurium in spring 2023 referenced recent forecasts by the International Energy Agency (IEA) pointing to rapid growth in solar photovoltaic (solar PV) deployment worldwide. According to the agency, solar PV installations will generate more power by 2027 than any other energy source, including coal, natural gas and hydro. To meet this demand, consumption of both silver and tellurium, key components of solar panels, is expected to surge in coming years.

Chen Lin, founder of Lin Asset Management, has written in his investment newsletter for clients that solar PV is now the largest industrial usage of silver. He said that in 2022 solar PV production used about 12% of total silver demand, or about 120 million ounces of silver. Lin expects this number to rise dramatically in the coming years, and that is likely to lead to silver supply deficits for decades to come.

Lin points out that solar power is now the cheapest source of energy in many parts of the world and that all forecasts point to dramatic expansion of solar PV in the coming two decades. Conservative estimates forecast 300 gigawatts of solar PV production by 2027, up from the current level of about 200 gigawatts.

Scientists at the National Institutes of Health have designed an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that can predict if a patient's cancer will respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors using clinical data. This artificial intelligence model may assist physicians in determining whether immunotherapy medications are effective in the treatment of different cancers. To determine the effectiveness of their machine-learning model, the researchers carried out a proof-of-concept study led by scientists from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the National Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Research. Their model was built and assessed using data from independent data sets, including more than 2,800 patients with 18 different types of solid tumors who were treated using immune checkpoint inhibitors. The AI model, called Logistic Regression-Based Immunotherapy-Response Score (LORIS), is available for use at loris.ccr.cancer.gov. With such screening platforms becoming available, it is bound to become easier to determine which patients could benefit from the immune therapies commercialized by various companies such as Scinai Immuntherapeutics Ltd. (NADAQ: SCNI), thereby saving vital time and money.

Scinai Immunotherapeutics Ltd. (NASDAQ: SCNI) is a biotechnology company focused on developing, manufacturing, and commercializing innovative immunotherapeutic products primarily for the treatment of infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases.

In collaboration with the prestigious Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences (MPG) and the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG), both in Germany, Scinai is developing a pipeline of innovative nanosized antibody (NanoAb) therapies addressing diseases underserved by current treatments and with large and growing markets, such as COVID-19, asthma and psoriasis.

NanoAbs, also known as VHH-antibodies or Nanobodies, are alpaca-derived nanosized antibodies that exhibit multiple significant competitive advantages over existing antibody therapies, including stability at high temperatures, superior binding affinity, more effective and convenient routes of administration and efficient production. Scinai is uniquely positioned to advance nanosized antibody innovation from R&D through commercialization.

The company’s highly experienced and successful pharmaceutical industry leadership team includes former senior executives from Novartis, GSK and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Since its founding, Scinai has executed eight clinical trials, including a seven-country, 12,400-participant Phase 3 trial of a prior influenza vaccine candidate, and it built, owns and operates a 20,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art GMP biologics manufacturing facility housing its laboratories, production facilities and offices.

Lead Candidate: Inhaled COVID-19 NanoAb

In December 2021, Scinai signed definitive agreements with the Max Planck Society – parent organization of the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences– and the UMG to enter a strategic collaboration for the development and commercialization of innovative COVID-19 NanoAbs.

The company is planning a rapid development path that leverages its expertise and capabilities in biological drug development and manufacturing. Scinai anticipates preclinical proof-of-concept results for an inhaled COVID-19 NanoAb by the end of 2022, with initial Phase 1/2a human clinical trial results expected in 2023.

The intended inhaled mechanism of delivery of Scinai’s COVID-19 NanoAb formulation may serve as a significant differentiator when compared to approved monoclonal antibodies, which are injected. Inhaled delivery has shown to be cheaper, more convenient and likely safer for patients and providers.

NanoAb Pipeline: Psoriasis, Asthma and More

The COVID-19 NanoAb development agreement is part of a broader five-year research collaboration agreement signed in March 2022 covering discovery, development and commercialization of NanoAbs for several other disease indications with large market medical needs, including asthma, psoriasis, macular degeneration and psoriatic arthritis.

Scinai has an exclusive worldwide license for development and commercialization of COVID-19 NanoAbs and exclusive options for similar worldwide licenses for NanoAbs for the above mentioned additional large market disorders currently underserved by approved therapeutic antibodies.

Academic research teams from MPG and UMG have verified strong affinity by the new NanoAbs to their biological target molecules and high thermostability. They have also demonstrated strong neutralization by several NanoAb candidates of their respective target molecules. Neutralization studies of the other NanoAbs are expected to begin later in 2022.

Based on the promising results, Scinai will focus development efforts beginning with the following NanoAbs:

  • NanoAbs targeting IL-17 as drug candidates for the potential treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
  • NanoAbs targeting IL-13 and NanoAbs targeting TSLP as drug candidates for the potential treatment of asthma

These are conditions for which the antibody target is validated by existing treatments and the mechanism of action is well understood. Both represent large medical needs and growing markets. Scinai anticipates preclinical proof-of-concept for at least one of these NanoAbs in 2023. This is in addition to the aforementioned human clinical Phase 1/2a for the inhaled COVID-19 NanoAb therapy, which is also anticipated in 2023.

CDMO Services

While NanoAb pipeline development is Scinai’s core focus, the company also offers its cGMP manufacturing facility, aseptic fill and finish suite, laboratories and experienced professionals for contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services. This offering is designed to keep the Scinai team abreast of the latest industry developments and trends while building experience and generating revenue to support the company’s NanoAb pipeline development.

Correlate Energy Corp. (OTCQB: CIPI)

The QualityStocks Daily Newsletter would like to spotlight Correlate Energy Corp. (OTCQB: CIPI).

Correlate (OTCQB: CIPI) is a tech-enabled development, finance and fulfillment platform for distributed energy solutions across North America. CIPI is helping to promote the adoption of renewable energy at a corporate level for mid-tier companies that are often overlooked by large energy companies and consulting firms in the sustainability market. This comes as the transition from fossil fuel dependence to alternative, renewable energy sources has taken on increasing importance amid concerns about the growing consequences of climate change, with federal government incentives and experimental projects helping to drive efforts to transition the United States to greater renewable energy use from carbon-based sources. "Correlate's efforts include identifying localized clean energy solutions and microgrids that the company can finance, develop and profitably sell to its clientele. Its strategy for scale includes becoming capable of retaining ownership of some of its energy systems to provide sustainable revenues," a recent article reads.

Correlate Energy Corp. (OTCQB: CIPI) is a publicly-traded company strategically positioned to capitalize on America’s unstoppable trend toward decentralized energy generation.

The energy grid in the U.S. is insufficient for the booming clean energy trend, and current infrastructure is limiting green energy distribution. Constructing the needed infrastructure to address this demand imbalance will cost billions and be far too slow, positioning decentralized systems, like those on offer from Correlate, in a key position for heightened demand.

Correlate has identified several key economic drivers powering the decentralized energy trend, including:

  1. Real Cost Savings – Customer pays zero money down and gets an instant electrical price discount to current rates.
  2. Massive Project Investment Funding – The International Energy Agency estimates that over one billion dollars per day will be invested in solar energy in 2023.
  3. Consistent Long-Term Incentives – The Inflation Reduction Act is a game-changer, supercharging renewables with $1.2 trillion in tax credits for 10 years of market support.
  4. Robust Customer Demand – Wood Mackenzie expects the U.S. solar industry to nearly triple in size over the next five years.

Correlate’s team of multi-decade experts who have worked with renowned global brands are positioning the company to make the most of this opportunity while consolidating a fragmented industry. Collectively, the team has developed, financed and deployed over $2 billion in clean energy projects to date.

Three-Pronged Strategy

Correlate is leveraging a three-pronged strategy aimed at driving shareholder value:

  1. Sell – Correlate seeks to finance, develop and profitably sell localized clean energy solutions and microgrids to industrial, commercial and residential customers.
  2. Retain – Correlate plans to retain ownership of some of these energy systems and thereby realize ongoing, reliable cash flow.
  3. Acquire – Correlate seeks to acquire proven renewable energy companies in order to exponentially grow earnings per share for investors.

This strategy is enhanced by current investment trends. Clean energy earnings are being sought after by investors. In Q4 2022, the median EBITDA multiple for green energy companies was 12.3x, according to Finerva.

Market Outlook

Over the next decade and beyond, renewable energy growth is expected to come primarily via decentralized systems like those offered by Correlate.
The Inflation Reduction Act enacted in late August 2022 is likewise expected to drive growth for the company by providing new tax incentives that reduce costs for clients and/or elevate returns to investors.

Commercial buildings consume more than 35% of the generated electricity in the U.S. and are underperforming in energy efficiency at every level. These buildings waste energy, emit too much carbon and are too costly for owners and occupants, but retrofits are not happening at the rate or scale needed.

In today’s real estate market, portfolio property owners own most commercial buildings, yet most building efficiency work is focused on single buildings, thereby missing the distinct needs of this owner class which are very different from traditional owner-occupiers. The diverse nature of commercial buildings, combined with technology and performance uncertainty, make simple energy optimization initiatives – which could greatly reduce energy use and improve building value – financially unattractive, resulting in slow adoption rates. CIPI’s financial instruments and software breakdown this issue, known as the ‘split incentive’, unlocking the majority of the addressable market.

A key portion of Correlate’s strategy relates to consolidation of what has been a fragmented industry. By uncovering opportunities to improve efficiencies through strategic M&A activities, the company intends to enhance profitability throughout its operations.

Projects

Kolos Copper-Gold Project

Situated within British Columbia’s prime copper-producing belt, the 140-square-kilometer Kolos Copper-Gold Project exhibits Nicola Belt geology similar to notable porphyry mines, including Copper Mountain and Highland Valley, respectively situated 106 kilometers to the south and 30 kilometers to the northwest.

With field operations based in the nearby city of Merritt and year-round access provided via Highway 5, the Kolos Project showcases substantial discovery upside potential with five defined large-scale copper-gold-molybdenum anomalies untested by drilling.

Torr Metals’ primary focus lies in unlocking the potential for major new discoveries at the Kolos Copper-Gold Project, with recent surface geochemical results marking a significant milestone positioning the company as a new key player in the region.

Filion Gold Project

The 261-square-kilometer Filion Project is situated within a largely unexplored greenstone belt where gold was initially discovered in the 1930s. With a comparable geological setting to regional orogenic gold deposits and multiple newly identified and undrilled gold trends in surficial geochemistry, the Filion Project holds significant district-scale exploration promise.

The Filion Project benefits from unparalleled infrastructure access, with direct drive-on access from the Trans-Canada Highway, as well as a regional railway and power grid four kilometers to the south. Additionally, the nearby town of Kapuskasing, with a population of 8,300, provides essential support services.

This strategic positioning ensures the Filion Project’s viability for cost-effective, year-round operations in an area poised for untapped discovery potential.

Latham Copper-Gold Project

Situated in British Columbia’s renowned Golden Triangle, the Latham Project spans a vast 689-square-kilometer district, offering immense potential for multiple major discoveries. Accessible year-round via Highway 37, just 20 kilometers south of the town of Dease Lake, the site is strategically located amidst established mining infrastructure, including the active Red Chris mine to the southeast and upcoming major porphyry projects at Schaft Creek and Galore Creek along-trend to the southwest.

Moreover, the Latham Project’s appeal corresponds to the region being an attractive destination for major asset acquisitions and takeovers. Recent transactions within a 40-kilometer radius include Newmont’s 2021 acquisition of the Saddle North copper-gold porphyry deposit for $311 million and Newcrest’s investment in the Red Chris copper-gold porphyry deposit in 2019 for $804 million, underscoring industry acknowledgment of the region’s potential.

Market Opportunity

The World Gold Council, the industry association for the world’s gold producers, estimated in 2023 that the physical financial gold market, which is made up of bars, coins, gold ETFs and central bank reserves, is worth nearly $5 trillion.

The council reports that gold mine production adds approximately 3,500 tons of the precious metal to the world’s supply annually, equivalent to about 2% growth. This historical scarcity and relatively slow production of new supply, as compared to other commodities, is a primary reason gold has retained its value for millennia, according to the council.

Likewise, a report from Acumen Research and Consulting, a global provider of market intelligence and consulting services, valued the global copper market at $304.1 billion in 2022 and forecast that it will reach a market size of $496.8 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 5.1% over the forecast period.

The report identifies a growing demand for copper in the electronics industry, as well as an expanding copper supply due to increasing production from existing mines and the rising number of mine development projects in developing nations, as driving factors in the rising value of the copper market.

Emperor Metals Inc. (CSE: AUOZ) (FRA:9NH) (OTCQB: EMAUF)

The QualityStocks Daily Newsletter would like to spotlight Emperor Metals Inc. (CSE: AUOZ) (FRA:9NH) (OTCQB: EMAUF).

Emperor Metals (CSE: AUOZ) (OTCQB: EMAUF) (FRA: 9NH) is an advanced-stage, gold-exploration company focused on proving and developing the substantial resource potential of its flagship Duquesne West Gold Project located in the Tier 1 district of Southern Abitibi Greenstone belt of Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. "The project has a 2011 historical mineral resource estimate of 727,000 ounces of Au at 5.42 g/t and an average thickness of 5.71 m. In 2023, with the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence), Emperor Metals created the first ever 3D mineralized and geological model, which illuminated the potential to add significant ounces to this deposit. Using these models, Emperor had a very successful 2023 drilling campaign of 8,579 m. In addition to laterally extending high grade zones by intercepting grades of 15.8 g/t Au over 10.8 meters, Emperor encountered intercepts of lower grade bulk tonnage in the host rocks (1.69 g.t Au over 25 m). This led to envisioning a different strategy of exploration and the revelation that conceptual open pit potentially overlies this high-grade deposit. Historic sampling began (2,500 m) for discovering overlooked lower grade gold in the host rock around the high-grade lenses. Lower grade bulk tonnage gold improves the open-pit economics by reducing stripping ratios and adding overlooked incremental ounces for open-pit mining," a recent article reads, further discussing Emperor's fully funded phase II drilling program. "The company also plans on assaying an additional 8,000 m of historic core within the open pit model."

Lower grade bulk tonnage gold improves the open-pit economics by reducing stripping ratios and adding overlooked incremental ounces for open pit mining.

Emperor Metals is set to begin a fully funded Phase II 8,000 m drilling program in May 2024. The company also plans on assaying an additional 8,000 m of historic core within the open pit model. Emperor is working toward producing an updated NI 43-101 Mineral Resource Estimate by Q1 2025.

The company is led by a dynamic group of resource sector professionals who have a strong record of success in evaluating and advancing mining projects from exploration through to production, attracting capital and overcoming adversity to deliver exceptional shareholder value.

Project

Emperor Metals has an option to earn 100% ownership of the Duquesne West Gold Project, a mineral claim package comprising 38 claims covering approximately 1,389 ha (3,432 acres) in Quebec.

The Duquesne West Gold Property is located 32 kilometers northwest of the city of Rouyn-Noranda and 10 kilometers east of the town of Duparquet. The property lies within the historic Duparquet gold mining camp in the southern portion of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt in the Superior Province.

Emperor is targeting the potential multimillion-ounce resource in a combination of conceptual open pit and underground mining scenarios. A Phase I drill campaign and historical core sampling program was completed in 2023, which included resource confirmation and exploration drilling, focusing on delineating and growing the resource toward development.

The property hosts a historical inferred mineral resource estimate of 727,000 ounces of gold at a grade of 5.42 grams per ton (g/t) and average stope thickness of 5.71 m. The mineral resource estimate predates modern Canadian Institute of Mining guidelines, and a Qualified Person on behalf of Emperor Metals has not reviewed or verified the mineral resource estimate. Therefore, it is considered historical in nature and is reported solely to provide an indication of the magnitude of mineralization that could be present on the property. The gold system remains open for resource identification and expansion.

Reinterpretation of the existing geological model was created using artificial intelligence and machine learning. This AI model shows the opportunity for additional discovery of ounces by revealing gold trends unknown to previous workers and the potential to expand the resource along significant gold-endowed structural zones. Multiple scenarios exist to expand additional resources, which include:

  • Underground High-Grade Gold
  • Open Pit Bulk Tonnage Gold
  • Underground Bulk Tonnage Gold

The Duquesne West-Ottoman property straddles the Porcupine-Destor gold localizing fault several kilometers east of the town of Duparquet. A number of previous drill campaigns have outlined an inferred resource of 4.17 million tons grading 5.42 g/t of gold (cut) or 6.36 g/t (uncut), as reported in the NI 43-101 report titled “Technical Report and Mineral Resource Estimate Update for the Duquesne-Ottoman Property, Quebec, Canada.”

Emperor Metals is funded for an 8,000-meter drilling program focusing primarily on adding ounces to the current resource within and lateral to the open pit model. An additional 8,000 m of historical core sampling and assaying is included in the budget to help build incremental ounces in the open-pit environment.

Reflex Advanced Materials Corp. (CSE: RFLX) (OTCQB: RFLXF)

The QualityStocks Daily Newsletter would like to spotlight Reflex Advanced Materials Corp. (CSE: RFLX) (OTCQB: RFLXF).

A survey recently conducted by Deloitte has determined that every 7 in 10 leaders on mergers and acquisitions have abandoned possible acquisitions over environmental, social and governance ("ESG") concerns, with many of them revealing that they would willingly pay more for targets with strong ESG credits. This comes as sustainability considerations become more important in dealmaking processes for mergers and acquisitions (M&A's). For their analysis, the company surveyed 500 leaders from private-equity companies with roughly $1 billion in assets under management and corporations with at the minimum $500 million in revenue across Europe, North America, Middle East and Asia Pacific regions. The company determined that ESG factors were becoming integrated into the mergers and acquisitions process, with an increasing impact on due diligence, target considerations, and final valuation and decision-making. This comes as companies improve their understanding on ESG issues and sustainability-related data becomes more available. Over 65% of them also admitted that they would seek discounts for targets with negative ESG profiles, which is quite an increase from the 27% recorded in the previous survey. This survey shows that entities that follow ESG principles, such as Reflex Advanced Materials Corp. (CSE: RFLX) (OTCQB: RFLXF), could benefit in more ways than they anticipated, such as attracting investment funding from climate-conscious groups.

Reflex Advanced Materials Corp. (CSE: RFLX) (OTCQB: RFLXF) is a strategic minerals company focused on locating and developing economic properties in the strategic metals and advanced materials space. The company aims to improve domestic specialty mineral infrastructure efficiencies to meet surging national demand from North American manufacturers, effectively positioning itself as one of the only North American suppliers of high purity natural graphite for hi-tech applications.

Located in a mining-friendly jurisdiction in southwest Montana, the Ruby Graphite Deposit is a low cost, rapid re-entry opportunity that produced roughly 2,400 tons of graphite from 1902 to 1948. Reflex Advanced Materials holds mining rights for 755 hectares at the Ruby Graphite Project, with 96 federal lode mining claims. Recent samples assay at 95.8% to 98.4% total carbon.

The site is notable as the only combined U.S. graphite flake and vein graphite source. Vein graphite is ideal for energy storage applications, because it requires fewer steps to achieve purity than synthetic alternatives and is therefore far less environmentally damaging. This is expected to play a key role in the project’s development as demand for electric vehicles continues to surge.

In March 2023, the company announced its submittal of permit applications to the Bureau of Land Management in respect of its exploration of the Ruby Graphite Project. Its initial drill program, expected to take place in the summer of 2023, includes plans for 3,500 total meters of drilling, cored to an average depth of 130 meters. The targets for this drill program have been identified using historical data from original mine operations and data gathered for the initial 43-101 technical report on the project, dated January 31, 2023.

ZigZag Lithium Property

Located in the Thunder Bay Mining Division of Ontario, the ZigZag Lithium Property consists of eight mining claims spanning roughly 2,710 hectares. Mineralization at the property, most notably lithium, is based in pegmatite dikes and concentrated in spodumene crystals, which are consistent throughout the entire unit.

Spodumene is readily observable in outcrops and in drill cores, with crystal sizes ranging from 3-15cm, on average.

Reflex Advanced Materials and American Energy Technologies Company Metallurgical Partnership

Reflex Advanced Materials has entered into a material processing agreement with American Energy Technologies Co., which is based in Arlington Heights, Illinois, to conduct metallurgical testwork with the goal of creating a technical support data package for Reflex’s target customer base, U.S. Federal agencies and qualification programs with hi-tech customers in the battery and battery storage business.

The resulting coated, spherionized, purified graphite (CSPG) material that is expected to be created from the aforementioned tests will be used to provide potential customers of CSPG with samples so that they can begin the material qualification process.

Market Opportunity

Graphite is an ideal battery anode and has dominated the market since the proliferation of lithium-ion batteries. Despite this demand, there is currently no significant production of lithium-ion battery anode material in North America.

Instead, most graphite sold in North America today is sourced from Chinese producers. U.S. President Joe Biden highlighted this sourcing disparity in a 2022 address:

“The United Stated depends on unreliable foreign sources for many of the strategic and critical materials necessary for the clean energy transition – such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite and manganese for large-capacity batteries,” he said. “Demand for such materials is projected to increase exponentially as the world transitions to a clean energy economy.”

The U.S. Department of Energy is in the process of awarding $2.8 billion to expand domestic manufacturing of batteries for electric vehicles and combat this foreign dependency. Reflex Advanced Materials has identified its Ruby Graphite Project as a prime candidate for U.S.-sponsored initiatives due to the rarity and scarcity of natural graphite deposits in the country.

Processing graphite domestically in the U.S. is expected to provide Reflex Advanced Materials a competitive advantage as manufacturers begin to seek out American supply in the face of increased diplomatic tension. This is critical, as a rise in anode demand is expected to fuel a shortage of 8 million tonnes of graphite by 2040. World Bank Group projects 494% growth in total graphite demand by 2050.

FuelPositive Corp. (TSX.V: NHHH) (OTC: NHHHF) is a growth stage company focused on licensing, partnership and acquisition opportunities building upon various technological achievements. The company is committed to providing commercially viable and sustainable clean energy solutions, including carbon-free ammonia (NH3), for use across a broad spectrum of industries and applications.

FuelPositive is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

Hydrogen Economy Problems and FuelPositive’s Carbon-Free Technology

The hydrogen economy is currently facing many challenges. Traditional NH3 manufacturing exists on a massive scale, but centralized facilities result in some of the world’s most concentrated CO2 emissions. In total, an estimated 200 million metric tonnes of NH3 are consumed each year, with greater than 80% utilized by the agricultural sector. NH3 is also being positioned as a viable alternative to fossil fuels.

FuelPositive’s flagship carbon-free ammonia technology provides an innovative solution to these environmental concerns. Developed by Dr. Ibrahim Dincer and his team, the company’s platform allows for the in-situ production of NH3 in an entirely sustainable manner, using only water, air and sustainable electricity.

The production of hydrogen is energy intensive, but it is just one variable hindering the growth of the hydrogen economy. Other hurdles include:

  • Storage – The storage of hydrogen by compression or liquification are both cost prohibitive and unsustainable.
  • Distribution – The distribution network for effective hydrogen deployment has yet to be developed, as the extreme high-pressure distribution requirements to transport hydrogen would result in enormous infrastructure costs.
  • End Use – R&D on the transportation-related end use applications for hydrogen is in its infancy, but almost any vehicle on the road today can be easily converted to run on NH3 at a considerably lower cost per mile traveled when compared to traditional fossil fuels.

A key benefit of FuelPositive’s patent-pending, first-of-its-kind carbon-free NH3 technology is its flexibility. The process allows for small, medium or large-scale production of NH3 on location, minimizing or even eliminating the challenges and volatility associated with storage and transportation to end use. As such, with an appropriately sized FuelPositive system and access to renewable energy, the end use applications for the company’s platform are nearly infinite.

Manufacturing Partnership

On May 19, 2021, FuelPositive announced its selection of National Compressed Air Canada Ltd. (“NCA”) to undertake manufacturing of the company’s Phase 2 hydrogen-ammonia synthesizer commercial prototype systems for carbon-free ammonia production.

In a news release detailing the partnership, FuelPositive CEO Ian Clifford noted, “This critical milestone for FuelPositive will confirm the broad application potential for our technology and is the backbone of our Carbon-Free Hydrogen-NH3 offering. Partnering with the knowledgeable and experienced team at NCA on this commercialization project will bring our development-stage program to life.”

Global Ammonia Market Outlook

The global ammonia market was valued at $52.71 billion in 2017 and is forecast to reach $81.42 billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 5.59%, according to data from Fior Markets (https://ibn.fm/1OfOB).

The agricultural industry consumes more than 80% of global NH3. Smaller percentages can be attributed to the waste, water treatment, refrigerants, antiseptic, textile, mining and pharmaceutical industries.

One of the most polluting industries on the planet consists of conventional agribusinesses. These polluters are responsible for more greenhouse emissions per year than transportation. This is where FuelPositive’s technology is expected to be extremely beneficial.

McEwen Mining Inc. (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX)

The QualityStocks Daily Newsletter would like to spotlight McEwen Mining Inc. (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX).

McEwen Mining Inc. (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX) is an asset rich diversified gold and silver producer in the Americas with a large exposure to copper through its subsidiary, McEwen Copper, owner of the Los Azules copper deposit in Argentina, believed to be the 8th largest undeveloped copper resource in the world.

Led by a management team with a track record of success, MUX owns and operates mines in some of the most prolific gold producing regions of the Americas. The company proactively took cost-saving measures months ago to lower expenses and increase production across its portfolio of gold assets, driving some production costs below industry averages. Gold and copper prices, already in an upswing, are forecast to enter an explosive uptrend over the next couple years. Drawing from its experience, McEwen Mining planned, prepared and laid the groundwork to capitalize on this emerging opportunity.

The company currently holds a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), placing it in the top 5% of over 4,000 stocks ranked by Zacks, based on trends in earnings estimate revisions and EPS surprises. Seldom is management so aligned with investors’ interests and committed to the company’s success. With a combined investment of over $220 million, CEO Rob McEwen holds a 17% ownership stake in McEwen Mining and a 13% ownership in McEwen Copper. Acclaimed in the mining industry, McEwen founded Goldcorp, where he increased the company’s market capitalization 160 times – from $50 million to over $8 billion. That same vision and tenacity led MUX in creating McEwen Copper.

For McEwen Mining shareholders, beyond the company’s exposure to gold upsurges, its 47.7% stake in McEwen Copper is expected to be a blockbuster, turbocharging MUX by creating the world’s next prolific copper unicorn.

McEwen Copper

With continuous industrial need, new critical demand for copper is rapidly emerging, increasingly driven by the green energy transition. The price of copper rose from a low of about $2 per pound in 2020 to over $4.60 per pound in May 2024, and strong demand is expected to intensify. A study by S&P Global, titled The Future of Copper: Will the Looming Supply Gap Short-circuit the Energy Transition?, projects global copper demand to nearly double over the next decade, from 25 million metric tons today to about 50 million metric tons by 2035. Based on current trends, S&P Global forecasts annual supply shortfalls to reach nearly 10 million metric tons in 2035.

McEwen Mining owns a 47.7% equity stake in McEwen Copper, the holder of a 100% interest in the Los Azules copper project in San Juan, Argentina, which is ranked the 8th largest undeveloped copper deposit in the world. Current copper resources at Los Azules are estimated at 10.9 billion pounds at a grade of 0.40% Cu (Indicated category) and an additional 26.7 billion pounds at a grade of 0.31% Cu (Inferred category). McEwen Copper also owns a copper exploration project in Nevada, USA, called Elder Creek.

In a 2023 Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA), Los Azules was estimated to have a 27-year life, producing an average of 322 million lbs. of copper cathode annually, at a cash cost of $1.07 per lb. of copper, in the lowest quartile of the copper cost curve. The project could ultimately become an even larger mine with a longer life, since the extent of mineralization has not been fully assessed on the property.

The project’s 2023 PEA presents a distinctly different development strategy from a prior PEA published in 2017. By proposing a heap leach project using solvent extraction-electrowinning instead of the previously detailed mine with a conventional mill and flotation concentrator, McEwen Copper aims to decrease its environmental footprint and reduce permitting risk, albeit with a lower overall copper recovery, slightly higher unit costs and a delay in immediate cashflow due to extended leach cycles.

After securing a $25 million investment from mining giant Rio Tinto’s technology arm, Nuton LLC, McEwen Copper closed its non-brokered, private placement offering of $82 million in August 2022. Shortly after, in February 2023, Nuton agreed to invest an additional $30 million into McEwen Copper, and in October 2023, Nuton once again expanded its stake, investing an additional $10 million to bring its ownership position in McEwen Copper to 14.5%.

“We are extremely pleased to have Nuton’s strong continued participation in McEwen Copper,” Rob McEwen stated in a news release. “Together we are exploring new technologies that save energy, water, time and capital in the pursuit of delivering green copper to Argentina and the world, a product that will contribute to the electrification of transportation and the protection of our atmosphere.”

Also in February 2023, FCA Argentina S.A., a subsidiary of Stellantis N.V., one of the world’s leading automakers, invested ARS $30 billion in McEwen Copper. In October 2023, Stellantis invested an additional ARS $42 billion, bringing its current stake in McEwen Copper to 19.4%.

“We are delighted to have Stellantis as a partner in the future development of our Los Azules copper project,” Rob McEwen said of the investment. “Together, we share a vision to build a mine for the future based on regenerative principles that can achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2038.”

Following the capital raise, McEwen Copper is well-funded to advance its Los Azules Project, with a Feasibility Study planned for Q1 2025. MUX strategically reduced its interest to increase its treasury, in order to reduce debt and fund the further development of its gold and silver assets.

Gold & Silver Projects

The Fox Complex

McEwen Mining owns a 100% stake in the Fox Complex in the heart of a prolific gold district in Timmins, Canada.

“When MUX bought the Fox Complex, in late 2017, it was a distressed asset with a history of high operating cost/oz. While it has taken longer than I expected, the cost to produce an ounce of gold is significantly lower,” CEO Rob McEwen stated in a news release.

McEwen Mining issued 2024 guidance for its cash cost/oz at the Fox Complex of $1,225-1,325 on annual production of 40,000-42,000 GEOs. Fox Complex produced 44,450 GEOs in 2023, which was within the company’s guidance range.

Located in one of the most prolific gold production areas in the world, along the Destor-Porcupine Fault Zone within the Abitibi Greenstone Belt, the Fox Complex includes the Black Fox mine and Froome mine which together have yielded over 1,000,000 ounces of gold to date. Also, the complex includes the Grey Fox and Stock deposits that have over 1,800,000 ounces in gold resources. The 2.7-billion-year-old Abitibi Greenstone Belt, formed by ancient volcanic activity, has proved to be one of the world’s richest and most abundant gold regions, with a total gold content currently estimated at over 300 million ounces.

In 2024, MUX commenced development of underground ramp access to the Stock orebodies at the Fox Complex. This development will become the primary source of feed following the completion of mining the Froome deposit in 2026. As part of the future mining sequence initiative, the company has already reported a 31% year-over-year increase of gold resources at Stock West and Stock Main (historical Stock Mine), with confirmation of good grading structures plunging to depth. It has also identified Stock East as a potential new near-term source of future revenue.

The Gold Bar Mine

McEwen Mining owns a 100% stake in the Gold Bar mine, located in an area well known for gold production, the southern Roberts Mountains of the Battle Mountain-Eureka-Cortez gold trend in Eureka County, Central Nevada. The Gold Bar mine is on the same geological structure, 25 miles south of Nevada Gold Mines, a Barrick-Newmont joint venture, part of the Cortez-Goldrush complex. This complex contains estimated reserves and resources of over 50 million gold ounces, with an annual production of 1,000,000 gold ounces.

Gold Bar had been mined between 1991 and 1994, producing 134,000 gold ounces. A new facility was built by MUX in 2019. Gold Bar accounted for 42,700 GEOs in 2023, within the company’s guidance for the year. For 2024, McEwen Mining issued guidance of 40,000-43,000 at a cash cost of $1,450-1,550. The first half of the year is expected to deliver higher production relative to the second half, due to a scheduled waste stripping phase in the Pick pit, in preparation for the 2025 mining program.

Notably, in April 2024, McEwen Mining announced its entry into a definitive agreement and plan of merger with Timberline Resources Corporation (TSX.V: TBR) (OTCQB: TLRS) in a transaction valued at roughly $18.8 million. The merger with Timberline is expected to augment McEwen’s existing portfolio of development and exploration projects in Nevada, leveraging synergies between Timberline’s projects and the Company’s Gold Bar mine.

El Gallo/Fenix

Project Fenix is the proposed redevelopment plan for McEwen Mining’s El Gallo Complex in Mexico. There is a long history of mining in this region. MUX began operating it as an open pit, heap leach mine in 2013, which produced 281,000 gold equivalent ounces at average cash cost of $655 per ounce. Due to the transition to deeper sulfide mineralization that is not amenable to heap leaching, mining activities ceased in the second quarter of 2018 and residual heap leaching followed until mid-2022. The redevelopment plan envisions constructing a mill at the existing mine site that will initially reprocess the existing heap leach material, then transition to open pit mining and processing of the sulphide mineralization. The company recently acquired a complete process plant on very advantageous terms that has considerably reduced the projected capital requirements for the project.

CEO Rob McEwen stated in a news release, “This acquisition has made Fenix more attractive to build and could provide a new long life mine for McEwen Mining.”

The initial development approach is to build a mill to reprocess the material on the heap leach pad and produce approximately 17,000 oz of gold annually for eight years. Construction of the Fenix project is expected to begin in the second half of 2024.

San José Mine

McEwen Mining is a 49% owner and non-operator of the San José gold and silver mine, located in Santa Cruz province, Argentina, encircling Newmont’s prolific Cerro Negro (approx. 300,000 gold ounces produced in 2023). This high-grade underground mine has been operating since 2007 and currently has an expected life of six years with a reserve grade of 296 gpt silver and 5.4 gpt gold.

Exploration is continuing to extend high-grade veins and discover new veins at the complex. San José’s drilling programs to define additional resources and reserves have a long history of success due to a high vein density, aided by good geophysical response from hidden veins.

Production guidance for 2024 for MUX’s 49% interest is 50,000-60,000 GEOs. As a minority shareholder in the mine, MUX equity accounts for its investment in San José, and receives 49% of the dividends from the mine’s free cash flow.

Market Outlook

Mining stocks suffered significant losses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this has turned, and many analysts now forecast a gold bull market in 2024 and beyond.

“The operating challenges we faced in recent years have severely damaged our credibility with our shareholders and the market. As a result, few investors have taken a close look recently at our assets,” Rob McEwen said in a news release. “If they did, I believe some would see the potential value that I see today… I believe there is considerable potential value in MUX, and that is a big reason why I have a personal financial commitment of $220 million in MUX and McEwen Copper.”

Astrotech Corp. (NASDAQ: ASTC) is an instrumentation company that designs, manufactures and commercializes solutions. Its solutions include mass spectrometry, process controls, chemical detectors and medical disease detection.

The company was established in 1984 and, prior to 2009, was known as SPACEHAB Inc., a NASA contractor offering technology originally developed for NASA to monitor air quality on the International Space Station. When the Space Shuttle program ended, the company focused on its satellite processing and mass spectrometer instrumentation units and adopted the Astrotech name.

In 2014, Astrotech sold its satellite subsidiary to focus on its Astrotech Technology Inc. (ATi) mass spectrometry solutions, which offer a number of advantages over competing platforms. Notably, Astrotech’s ATi technology is ruggedized, rapid, simple to use and customizable, with hands-free calibration and tuning.

Between 2016 and 2019, the company secured U.S. patents for its technology and achieved European Union (ECAC) certification for the TRACER 1000™, the world’s first mass-spec Explosives Trace Detector (ETD) used in airports worldwide. Astrotech continues to innovate and add to its suite of products, including AgLAB-1000, a process control system, and the BreathTest 1000, a disease detection solution.

Astrotech is headquartered in Austin, Texas.

Subsidiaries

Astrotech Technologies Inc.

Astrotech Technologies Inc. (ATi) owns and licenses the platform mass spectrometry technology originally developed by 1st Detect. This technology is designed to be less expensive, smaller and easier to use than traditional mass spectrometers.

Unlike other technologies, ATi works under high vacuum, which eliminates competing molecules, yielding higher resolution and fewer false alarms. The company’s intellectual property includes 18 granted patents, along with extensive trade secrets.

ATi exclusively licenses the Astrotech Mass Spectrometer Technology to the three wholly owned subsidiaries of Astrotech.

1st Detect Corp.

1st Detect Corp. developed the TRACER 1000, the world’s first mass spectrometry-based explosives and narcotics trace detector. 1st Detect ETDs were developed for use at airports, cargo facilities and other secured locations and borders worldwide.

1st Detect’s commercial sales of the TRACER 1000 ETD, consumables and recurring maintenance services brought in $750,000 in total revenue during the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023. The Astrotech subsidiary recently secured two orders for a total of 24 Tracer 1000 units from two Romanian security and telecommunications companies, to be delivered during calendar 2023.

AgLAB Inc.

AgLAB Inc. is developing a series of mass spectrometers for use in the hemp and cannabis market, with an initial focus on optimizing yields in the distillation processes.

AgLAB, which uses the company’s proprietary AgLAB 1000-D2™ mass spectrometer, has been proven to improve distillation oil yields and bottom-line profits for hemp and cannabis producers. During field trials, AgLAB was able to improve ending-weight yields by an average of 24%.

BreathTech Corp.

BreathTech is developing the BreathTest-1000™, a breath analysis tool to screen for volatile organic compound (“VOC”) metabolites found in a person’s breath that could indicate they may have a compromised condition including but not limited to a bacterial or viral infection. The company believes that new tools to aid in the battle against COVID-19 and other diseases remain of the utmost importance to help more quickly identify that an infection may be present.

Market Opportunity

A report by Mordor Intelligence, a research and advisory firm, put the global mass spectrometry market at $6.37 billion in 2023. The market is forecast to grow to $8.63 billion by 2028, achieving a CAGR of 6.25% during the forecast period.

One of the major driving factors for the growth of the mass spectrometry market is technological advancements in mass spectrometer devices, the report states. Key market players are continuously working toward advancing their existing products and launching innovative and advanced mass spectrometer devices.

Another major factor that is expected to boost market growth is increasing research and development expenditure by both government and private entities, according to the report. Mass spectrometry devices are also being used in the detection and analysis of COVID-19 and other disease samples, which may have a positive impact on the market.

Management Team

The Astrotech leadership team includes management executives, as well as industry and technology experts. The company continues to actively expand its talent pool to meet evolving demands.
